TESOL Course External Moderator (Dunedin)

Description:

The TESOL course is NZQA certified and graduates finish with a certificate in TESOL with 110 hours of instruction and a 16 hour practicum.

The course is expected to run part-time from 06/03/2012, from 6pm-9pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 9am-4pm every other Saturday (times and dates will be finalized once we have a moderator in place).

Expectations:

The moderator would need to be present on site between 7.30 and 9pm on Thursday evenings from 17/05/2012, to assess the practical teaching aspect of the course. They will assess the reflective diaries, one-on-one student diaries, and the lesson plan assignments, to moderate each student’s overall grade.

Qualifications Required:

· TESOL/CELTA Certificate (or equivalent)

· 5+ years post-certification teaching experience

· - Experience teaching and/or moderating similar course preferred

· DELTA or Masters in TESOL preferred

You will be working with former refugees and their communities, as well as refugee organisations and government agencies such as Work and Income.

You will need to have experience working with different refugee-background communities and organising, facilitating, and running workshops.

You will need good oral and written communication skills, including computer literacy.

1) Greater Wellington Intake Coordinator

Refugee Services is looking for an Intake Coordinator for the Greater Wellington area. The Intake Coordinator provides a smooth resettlement process for refugee clients to Greater Wellington through provision of basic resettlement needs, and to manage information flows to staff and key agencies.

2) Job Vacancy: Volunteer Supervisor

Refugee Services operates a nationwide network of trained Volunteer Support Workers (VSWs) to help welcome and provide practical support, friendship and advocacy for refugee clients during their initial months of resettlement in New Zealand. Our volunteer supervisors:

  • Recruit new volunteers to assist with refugee clients;
  • Supervise teams of volunteers, providing support and guidance; and
  • Work with a team of social workers, cross cultural workers and case workers to plan for best client support.

3) Burmese Speaking Cross Cultural Worker

Refugee Services is looking for a fluent Burmese Speaker to work with newly arrived families in the Wellington area as a Cross Cultural Worker. It is preferred that the candidate has lived in New Zealand for two years or more. The work includes helping clients from Myanmar/Burma resettle in New Zealand. We are looking for someone who is able to relate to and support people from different cultural and religious backgrounds, and who can work both independently and as part of a team. Refugee background or membership of the Myanmar/Burmese community would be strongly preferred.
