The Timaru campus of Ara Institute of Canterbury has a fixed term vacancy for a qualified, experienced English language tutor. The tutor will deliver coursebook lessons and New Zealand studies lessons (all materials provided) to international students, mostly university students from Japan on short term study programmes.
The timetabled teaching will be Mondays to Thursdays, 9am to 12noon for the five weeks from 17 February to 20 March 2020. In the afternoons (Mondays to Thursdays 1pm to 3pm) and on Fridays (9am to 3pm) the students take part in organised recreation and tourism visits, and the tutor can also work as an activity guide on these visits if they wish; this work is paid at a lower rate than the teaching work. To work as an activity guide, the applicant must have a full driver’s licence for New Zealand and be willing to drive an 11-seater minivan both within Timaru and on the open road (e.g. to Oamaru, Tekapo or Geraldine).
Applicants must have:
- The appropriate visa to work in New Zealand
- A level of English of at least CEFR C1 level
- An initial TESOL qualification such as Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL OR 500 hours experience teaching English language to adults or young adults
If the successful applicant is from outside Timaru, assistance with transport and accommodation may be negotiated. Applications (CV and cover letter) can be sent to Heather Knox, Manager – School of English.
Closing date for applications: 5pm, Wednesday 22 January 2020.
