From Fiona McLeod
I am looking forward to moving to Whanganui at the start of 2022, and I am looking for a Learning Assistant position in ESOL. At present, I work in two different primary schools to acquire enough working hours. One school has 700 students, with 150 migrant and former refugee students. Here I am part of a team of LAs and take direction from the class Teacher. The other school is a country school of 270 students, 14 of them are from migrant families and International students. I am the sole charge of the ESOL program here and also responsible for ensuring the school’s compliance with the Code of Conduct for international students and pastoral care. I have done the TESOL graduate diploma from Wintec Hamilton. Working with ESOL students is very rewarding, and I am passionate about lifting children’s confidence in themselves and in their school work. I would like to work full time but would be happy to work at 2 Schools if necessary.
